Our Mission
Preserve. Protect. Promote
The mission of the Bunker Hill Monument Association is to preserve, protect and promote the historic importance of the Bunker Hill Monument; to promote the history and significance of the Battle of Bunker Hill (June 17, 1775) to the course and outcome of the American Revolution and the formation, and development of the United States of America.
The Bunker Hill Monument Association
Founded in 1823, the Bunker Hill Monument Association (BHMA) was established to lead the creation of a lasting tribute to the patriots who fought at the Battle of Bunker Hill, one of the earliest and most pivotal encounters of the American Revolutionary War. After 16 years of determination and intermittent progress, the iconic 221-foot granite obelisk was completed, standing proudly atop Bunker Hill in Charlestown.
Every year on June 17, the BHMA partnering with the NPS and the American Legion Conway Post 26 memorializes the Battle of Bunker Hill. Separately, an Ecumenical Service at St. Francis de Sales is organized by Post 26 with the Commemoration Ceremony at the base of the Monument to follow.
The BHMA is also the guardian of many historic artifacts relating to the Monument and the Battle. The second floor of the Bunker Hill Museum includes a Pitman Model of the Battle. The model allows the viewer to “experience” the battle and appreciate the actions of the British and Colonialists on June 17, 1775.
The BHMA has two aquatints of the Bunker Hill Monument and surrounding grounds which are on loan to the Massachusetts General Hospital in Charlestown. The marble bust of President Carnot of the Republic of France is on loan to the Consulate General of France in Boston. Also on loan are two cannons, the Hancock and the Adams. The Adams is on view in the Lodge and the Hancock can be seen at the Minute Man Museum in Lexington.
We continue to provide this service with great pride and a sense of responsibility.
The Bunker Hill Monument Association is organized exclusively for charitable, educational, and historical preservation purposes within the meaning of Section 501(c)(3) of the Internal Revenue Code. The Association is dedicated to preserving, maintaining, and promoting the historical significance of the Bunker Hill Monument ensuring the legacy of the Battle of Bunker Hill endures for future generations.

An Annual Commemoration
The Battle of Bunker Hill. An Annual Commemoration
The first address was by statesman and brilliant orator Daniel Webster in 1825. This tradition continues and has never been disrupted. It remains the longest running commemoration in our nation’s history.
Looking ahead to 2025, the 250th Anniversary of the Battle will be marked by a series of special events, culminating in an Annual Commemoration Ceremony at the Monument on June 17, 2025.
Your membership is invaluable in helping to continue to keep this historic event alive.
